Thank you 2023!

2023 proved to be an overwhelming positive step in the right direction & overall, a great year for TJ Carter and the (complimenting band name soon to come).

TJ hung up the One Man Band boots of 22’ and kicked the year off with a new band & long awaited self titled EP (recorded at Sleepwalk studios) which helped forge a name onto the local scene.

From a promising main stage performance at Agnes Blues Roots & Rock 2023 festival, to a plethora of local festivals & venues throughout the year including Sunshine Coasts Nortons music Factory, Wolvi Stomp, Biloela Winterfest, Woodgate Blues-  TJ expresses his gratitude to have been included on some humbling lineups including nationally acclaimed ASH GRUNWALD, BUSBY MAROO, THE FLOOD, BRAD COX, 8 BALL AITKEN, HUSSY HICKS and many more. A personal ‘Thank you’ to all those organisers.

A 2nd place win for the local competition ‘Battle in the box’ also helped the quest.

2024 is set to be even bigger, with new goals and exciting opportunities already in the making. Collaborations, recording, touring, community events and building the springboard for what lies ahead. Keep an eye out on the Social media streams.

Having moved around for much of his adult life from Adelaide to UK to QLD (2007) , TJ has been apart of many a music scene and has experienced fruitful highs some only dream of playing for other bands.

On his own however, he learns a new approach which requires a broader skillset. Guitar, songwriting & self promotion. Theres a whole lot to do to make ground in this day & age!

“It hasn’t been easy!  Earning a somewhat mundane day job as an Electrician… Coming home to find the inspiration to not sit on the couch and do fuck all is bloody hard.

Overcoming what could be described as some debilitating confidence/ motivational issues in the past, I feel in 2023 I have finally broken through some barriers to find my way to a satisfying musical journey again. Its awesome!”

With his latest brotherhood of musicians, Boi Crompton (bass/vocals) and Matt Perin/ Mitch Francis swapping out drums- TJ Carter and the (complimenting band name soon to come) is a force capable of unimaginable prospects and certainly a name to look out for in 2024. Get on board!

Many years of his early professional career were spent cutting his teeth gigging in Adelaide bands and venues in a 90’s classic rock cover scene.

In 1999, (22yrs ago) TJ expanded his horizons by moving to London, UK.

Whilst holding down mundane labouring day to day jobs, He forged his way into an exciting local London music scene. Writing & recording his own music, touring the UK & playing troubadour venues & festivals.

“At the time, it didn’t feel glorious or even overly appreciated, but looking back, I’m proud of it”.

In 2001 TJ moved to Dublin, Ireland and continued to use his strength of music to earn a living and see the country.

“Ireland was a special time for me. Street performing and regular gigs in Temple Bar are my most warming memories.”

In 2003 TJ returned to London.

“I got a job working in a SOHO guitar store and met a guy that changed my life. Marcin Bobkowski. He invited me to join his reggae band “Natty Dreadlocks”. What ensued was a dream run… We played world renowned venues in London, toured Europe 3 years running, and played some epic reggae festivals & gigs, supporting names like Steele pulse & Culture. It was unbelievable”.

When TJ returned home to Australia in 2008, he moved to Brisbane and immersed himself in the West End scene playing in other bands & focusing on his own music -gigging, touring and songwriting.

With a change of musical influence TJ formed BIG NATURAL in 2014. A Folk, Country, & Blues infused Trio with Damo Innes and Kevin Shilling. It led to a self titled EP Recording, mixed & mastered at Bomb Shelter studios in Nashville Tennessee USA. Small venue performances throughout, Tenessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana & LA followed.

TJ Carter, with his Latest One Man Band Blues Explosion project, endeavours to blow crowds away with his powerful ability to multitask Guitar, Vocals, Foot drums and Harmonica.

Uptempo Rockin’ Blues rhythms will get you moving & feeling the rhythm… and talking!
